Trade Unions / ACTION
Your union needs YOU!

Whatever kind of work you do, and however you do it, there’s nearly always a trade union that would welcome you as a member. Even if there’s no specific union for your trade, most ‘general’ unions have sections covering a wide range of different occupations; there are now said to be upwards of 20,000 of them.

National trade-union centres
Look for a union that’s affiliated to a national ‘centre’. That usually means it must stick to some basic principles of solidarity.

Union on the internet
Many good international union sites are now available, with useful links. Get the latest union news from around the world on www.labourstart.org While the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) has added a few cutting edges to www.icftu.org the International Centre for Trade Union Rights (ICTUR) at www.ictur.labournet.org is sharper. The International Labour Organization (ILO) at www.ilo.org has an excellent online database.
