Reviews

[The Way to School] is both a fascinating look at school around the world and a very subtle message to readers to appreciate what they have. - Kirkus Reviews.

This book helps remind us how much effort some children have to make to get to school every day. Each page features striking photographs of their journeys, over flood waters, up cliffs, along tightropes, wires or rickety bridges... Through these images, we can all reflect on the journeys we and others make each day. - Juno Magazine .

Minimal text and stunning photographs from around the world describe the remarkable, and often dangerous, journeys children make every day on their way to and from school. No simple school bus picks them up each day, but rather children travel through disaster zones, cross rapids, climb mountains, and maneuver on zip-lines daily to get to the classroom. Some of them even carry their desks!

In this beautiful picture book for young readers, every image and spread speaks to the desire for an education and the physical commitment the children make each day as they journey to school.

I was amazed at the difficulties so many children face to get an education where in this country many families take it for granted. I'm excited to share this book with my students. It should give them an understanding of the hardships people face around the word and think of was we can help.. Empathy is one way to get there and I love that the pictures tell the story.
    Thank you!
